Meet Tanya Poirier
Tat’s Lace is located in Sydney Mines, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Here, I create a variety of products using my own hand made tatted lace. The term ‘tatting’ describes a type of lace that uses knots to create intricate patterns. The lace is made with cotton which makes each piece light weight and durable.
I consider Tat’s Lace an example of what happens when you put your energy into a positive activity. Tatting was one of the many hobbies I learned while at college. The craft is often referred to as a lost art mostly because of the dedication it takes to master it. As I continued to focus on it I began to create my own product lines. Through the uniqueness of tatting and its limited availability I was able to establish a business selling my products. I am now a juried member of the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design. With the help of the Centre’s business programs my creations are now available in a growing number of gift shops and online with my new website.
